Cuyama Well Waterline Repair and Re-Route

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife, Region 4, is forecasting a project to repair and reroute the Cuyama Well waterline located within the South Chimineas Unit of the Carrizo Plain Ecological Reserve in San Luis Obispo, California. The project scope involves abandoning a broken waterline segment currently crossing private property and installing approximately 3,600 feet of new waterline entirely on State lands. This installation will utilize trenching, jacking, and boring methods, specifically requiring a bore beneath State Route 166 and the excavation of bore pits along an existing dirt road. The new line will connect to existing infrastructure that supplies wildlife troughs, a wildlife pond, and a water cistern. The project is classified under NAICS code 237110 and is categorically exempt from the California Environmental Quality Act under California Code of Regulations, title 14, Section 15304, as it is considered a minor alteration to improve habitat conditions.
