Request for Additional Information – Direct View Optics and Aiming Lasers

Purpose:

The U.S. Army Project Manager – Soldier Lethality (PM-SL) is looking to follow up on its market survey (REF sam.gov #W15QKN-26-P-028127 announcement 04 MAR to 03 APR 2026). Regarding direct view optics and aiming lasers for use on shoulder fired weapon systems (i.e. rifles, carbines and automatic rifles) within the Close Combat Force, with an additional query to vendors who previously responded to the announcement.

Background:

In support of potential future Small Arms Fire Control (SAFC) acquisition, a fair and open competition for optics and lasers is being planned.

The USG is inquiring about additional technical information and availability of samples for evaluation against product description requirements.

Additional Information Requested:

This Request for Information is issued solely for planning purposes and does not constitute a formal solicitation, a guarantee of future acquisition, or a commitment to any specific procurement strategy, contracting vehicle, or regulatory pathway when looking at optics and lasers.

Vendors should also note that because some test methods may be rigorous or destructive in nature, they should anticipate that returned bid sample hardware may sustain wear or damage during the evaluation process.

PM SL desires the following additional information/data regarding your product(s):

  1. Can you provide (50) Bid Samples of your product to PM-SL for testing in support of the upcoming SAFC acquisition?
    1. If you cannot provide that quantity, what amount could be provided?
    2. What is the timeframe in which samples could be delivered to the USG?

Technical Questions for Industry:

  1. Red Dot/ Holographic Sight
    1. What is the optical center line of your sight(s)? Compatibility with USG fielded enablers (FWS-I) is desired. Do you offer solution to ensure proper integration?
    2. What is the parallax free distance of your sight(s)?
    3. Given the dimensions of the USG clip on enabler (FWS-I) to be used in conjunction with the sight, can a light shroud be provided with each sight that baffles the distance from the clip-on enabler eyepiece to the front of the sight?
    4. Does your sight and/or magnifier have mounting capability for a laser filter unit and anti-reflectance device? The LFU and ARD will be a part of any submission to the USG’s request for proposal. All forward facing reflective surfaces are required to have ARDs and any magnified optic must have a laser filter protection capability when in use.
    5. Can a passive aiming reference be incorporated with the sight to assist with aiming in the event of a no power situation?
    6. Can a non-black color finish, close to FED-STD 20150 (coyote brown), be provided?

  1. Aiming Lasers

  1. Does your product offer a timeout for the laser pointers and illuminator? If so, what timeout duration is provided?
  2. Are you able to provide a laser co-alignment of 0.3mRad or better?
  3. Does your product offer an eye safe mode to allow for force-on-force training?
  4. Can a non-black color finish, close to FED-STD 20150 (coyote brown), be provided?
