The U.S. Department of Energy's Portsmouth/Paducah Project Office is organizing a two-day Commercial Industry Workshop in Paducah, Kentucky, starting July 31, 2012, to explore commercial interest in the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant (PGDP). This event aims to engage private industry and non-DOE governmental entities in discussions about operating the PGDP for uranium enrichment or repurposing its facilities for other commercial uses, especially reuse and reindustrialization. Currently leased by the United States Enrichment Corporation (USEC), the PGDP may become available for new lease or purchase if USEC relinquishes its lease rights in the near future. The workshop will provide technical overviews of available plant facilities, land, and property, and will include a site tour for up to two representatives per entity, who must be U.S. citizens. Attendees will also have the chance to hold individual meetings with DOE representatives to discuss potential opportunities, reserving such meetings through RSVP. The workshop is intended to gather information and interest but does not constitute a solicitation or obligate DOE to any sales or leases. Interested parties must RSVP within 14 days following the announcement, with additional details provided by DOE program representatives. This workshop serves as a preliminary step for DOE to assess potential commercial involvement related to the future use of the PGDP assets.

Announcement DOE Paducah Site Utilization Workshop The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Portsmouth/Paducah Project Office (PPPO) is sponsoring a two-day Commercial Industry Workshop in Paducah, KY, beginning on July 31, 2012. The workshop is the first step in enabling DOE to learn of any commercial interest either in operating the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant (PGDP) to continue to enrich uranium or in utilizing all or part of the PGDP facilities for other commercial purposes, particularly for reuse/reindustrialization. Non-DOE Governmental entities interested in utilizing all or part of the PGDP facilities are also encouraged to attend the workshop. The United States Enrichment Corporation (USEC) currently leases the PGDP from DOE and operates the PGDP to enrich uranium. In the event that USEC will return all, or essentially all, of the PGDP and relinquish its right to lease the PGDP, which may occur in the next few years, the opportunity may exist for private industry to lease or purchase PDGP facilities or land either to continue to enrich uranium or to utilize individual facilities (e.g., buildings, warehouses, machine shops, utilities) for other commercial purposes. The workshop will include an overview and technical discussion on the potentially available PGDP facilities, land, and personal property, followed by a site tour. Up to two (2) representatives from each entity may attend the site tour and must provide verification that they are United States citizens. The workshop also will offer the opportunity for individual one-on-one meetings between DOE representatives and interested parties/Companies/Governmental Entities. Those interested in attending the workshop must RSVP to Robert "Buz" Smith, U.S. Department of Energy, contact@example.gov no later than 14 days after the date of this announcement. Companies/Governmental Entities interested in one-on-one meetings, should so indicate in their RSVP. This is not a solicitation for services to be provided to DOE under a contract. Further, DOE's conduct of a workshop or the information provided at or in support of the workshop does not and should not be construed as obligating or in any way binding DOE to take or not to take any action with regard to the lease, sale or transfer of real or personal property. Information on the PPPO can be found at: http://www.pppo.energy.gov/. Information on the PGDP can be found at: http://www.usec.com/gaseous-diffusion/paducah-gdp. 1 1) Providing the link to the USEC website neither constitutes, nor should be construed as DOE's endorsement of USEC or any statements or information contained on USEC's website.
