Donner Pass Road Fuels Reduction 2026

The Donner Pass Road Fuels Reduction 2026 project targets a 2.05-acre treatment area on the south side of Truckee High School and Truckee Elementary School, where dense stands of Jeffrey and Lodgepole Pine with touching canopies create a significant wildfire risk. The primary objective is to reduce flammable fuel loads through manual thinning of small diameter conifers and shrubs, thereby lowering the potential for intense, fast-moving fires. This work is designed to create defensible space and interrupt continuous fuel pathways to protect the adjacent school campuses, the surrounding residential and commercial properties, and the broader community along the Donner Pass Road corridor. The project is managed by the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District, with operations focused in Truckee, California, under the oversight of Maintenance Coordinator Pat Mckechnie. While the solicitation is currently a forecast with no formal bidding details yet published, the initiative is part of a larger effort to enhance community resilience against wildfires. Beneficiaries include students, staff, and families who rely on these schools, as well as local residents and businesses whose properties are vulnerable to fire spread from the heavily forested areas bordering the campus.
