AI Contract Overview
The Navy’s Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division, has issued a Request for Information (RFI) seeking detailed technical input for developing a High Energy Density Systems (HEDS) Roadmap. This roadmap aims to guide future research, development, demonstration, production, and readiness planning of advanced energy and power systems for airborne, sea, and land military applications excluding personal-carried and ship primary propulsion systems. The focus areas span lithium-based and other electrochemical batteries, capacitive storage, fuel cells, advanced energy conversion and power systems, packaging and systemization, energy management and control, advanced technology applications, and safety/risk considerations. Participants are invited to submit concise white papers presenting energy technologies capable of delivering significant capability improvements for the Warfighter between 2010 and 2040. These submissions should address technology readiness, potential military applications, and the projected impact on system performance, affordability, safety, and total ownership costs. Respondents willing to contribute to this market research are also invited to indicate their interest in attending a specialized, highly technical workshop scheduled for mid-July 2010 at NAVSURFWARCENDIV Crane and Bloomington, Indiana. The workshop will facilitate collaboration among senior scientists and engineers from government, academic, and industry sectors, focusing strictly on technical discussion rather than marketing. The information gathered will be evaluated by Navy and Department of Defense personnel and select external experts to identify technology gaps, risks, enablers, and critical success factors integral to evolving naval energy systems over the next several decades. This RFI does not constitute a solicitation for proposals or an obligation to award contracts, and the government will not reimburse any costs associated with responses or workshop participation. Contributors must be U.S. citizens, and proprietary or sensitive information should not be submitted due to shared access within the working groups.
