Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment Project at Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park

The project involves installing Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) within the designated vehicle and employee parking areas of Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park to support future Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (EVCS). This infrastructure includes burying conduits, running new electrical wiring, connecting to the site’s existing power source, and installing fixed bollards and wheel stops to safeguard the equipment. Parking stalls will be stenciled as “EV Charging Only” and accompanied by appropriate signage to designate their intended use. The scope excludes the actual installation of EVCS units, focusing solely on the underlying electrical and physical infrastructure required to power them. All work will adhere to applicable laws and regulations, involving pavement saw cutting, trenching, backfilling, and restoration of the lot surface to its original condition, with proper waste disposal procedures followed. The project is managed by the California Department of Parks and Recreation, with primary oversight from Todd Lewis, Chief of District Facilities Management, and Janelle Goulding, Project Director II. The initiative aims to prepare the park’s parking facilities for electric vehicle adoption by providing a fully functional, Code-compliant electrical system that supports future charging capabilities without including the charging units themselves. Work will be performed on-site in California, and the project is listed as a forecast under the California environmental quality reporting system, with public contact information provided for inquiries and coordination.
