The Naval Medical Center San Diego intends to award a sole source purchase order to Medtronic USA, Inc. for embolic glue and catheters used to treat venous malformations in the neurovascular system. These specialized supplies, which include Onyx AVM liquid embolic, various guidewires, and stent retrieval systems, are required to decrease blood flow to tumors prior to surgical alteration. Medtronic is identified as the only source capable of meeting these needs because their products provide the necessary operating handling time required for large malformations to ensure medication is not distributed to other vessels. The government requested delivery of these items by March 28, 2016. While this notice serves as an intent to sole source under FAR 13.106-1(b)(1)(i), interested parties were given the opportunity to submit capability statements including technical and cost data by March 21, 2016. The final determination to proceed with a competitive procurement or a sole source award remains at the sole discretion of the government.
