AI Contract Overview
The National Institute of Standards and Technology’s Material Measurement Sciences Division requires emergency repair of its Bruker timsTOF Pro 2 mass spectrometer, a critical component of the Rapid Drug Analysis and Research program used to identify new compounds in the street drug supply. The instrument has suffered a heat failure, and NIST intends to proceed with a sole source procurement from Bruker Corporation, Inc. of Billerica, Massachusetts, due to the proprietary nature of the equipment and the exclusive authorization granted to Bruker for repair and support. Market research confirms that only Bruker provides authorized maintenance, as use of any other vendor would void existing warranties and maintenance agreements, and the technology is protected by patents and copyrights. The procurement falls under NAICS code 811210 for other electronic and precision equipment repair and maintenance, with a small business size standard of $34.0 million. No formal solicitation package will be issued; however, responses from interested parties submitted by July 16, 2026, at 1:00 AM EST will be accepted for consideration, though the government retains full discretion to proceed without competition. Primary inquiries should be directed to Erik Fycklund at Erik.Fycklund@nist.gov.
