The U.S. Army Research, Development, and Engineering Command (RDECOM) Natick Contracting Division, representing the Soldier System Center in Natick, Massachusetts, is set to award a purchase order to Thermotron Industries for an Environmental Test Chamber. This procurement is conducted under the Federal Acquisition Regulation Part 13.5 Test Program for Certain Commercial Items. Thermotron Industries, located in Holland, Michigan, is uniquely qualified to supply a chamber that meets strict dimensional and functional requirements necessary for conducting ISO 11092 testing, which measures the thermal and water vapor resistance of textiles using the Sweating Guarded Hot Plate Test. The chamber must have an internal workspace of 38 inches in width, height, and depth to accommodate the guarded hot plate, while maintaining a compact overall size to fit spatial and access constraints. Thermotron Industries is the only supplier able to meet these specific size and performance parameters, which gives it sole-source status for this contract. The Environmental Test Chamber will enable precise testing of textile materials crucial for soldier systems. The contracting office is located in Natick, MA, and questions about the acquisition can be directed to Mr. Kevin Bassler. The announcement for this contract opportunity expired at noon on June 19, 2008. This procurement aligns with the defense sector’s NAICS code 334512 and signifies a critical acquisition to support testing capabilities within the Army’s Soldier System Center.

Under the authority of Federal Acquisition Regulation FAR Part 13.5 Test Program for Certain Commercial Items the U.S. Army RDECOM - Natick Contracting Division, Kansas Street, Natick, MA on behalf of the United States Army Soldier System Center, Natick, MA intends to negotiate and award a purchase order with Thermotron Industries, 291 Kollen Park Drive, Holland, MI 49423-3460. This effort is to provide the Government with an Environmental Test Chamber. Thermotron Industries has been qualified to meet the requirements to conduct test method ISO 11092 Measurement of Thermal and Water Vapor Resistance under Steady-State Conditions (Sweating Guarded - Hot Plate Test). This testing is used to characterize the thermal properties of textile materials. This chamber offers the workspace (inside) dimensions of 38W X 38H X 38D required to house the Guarded Hot Plate while maintaining an overall Chamber dimension of 53W X 68 D X 90 H. A small unit is a key aspect of the requirement since there are space as well as door ways limitations to move and house this test equipment. As such, Thermotron Industries is the only known company to meet all the required dimensions and parameters. Therefore the contract will be awarded to Thermotron Industries. Questions concerning this acquisition may be addressed to the above address, Attention: Mr. Kevin Bassler (AMSRD-ACC-NS) or by E-mail at contact@example.gov. This announcement expires at 12:00 p.m. local time on Thursday June 19, 2008.
