Envision O Street Urban Greening Project - 1400, 1500 and 1600 Blocks

The Envision O Street Urban Greening Project, managed by the Capitol Area Development Authority, aims to create a nature-based cool corridor in downtown Sacramento. The project focuses on the 1400, 1500, and 1600 blocks of O Street, as well as four half-block faces on 15th Street, Neighbors Alley, and 17th Street. Key deliverables include converting heat-absorbing turf, concrete hardscape, and compacted decomposed granite into climate-adapted landscapes, planting 12 new street trees, installing permeable concrete to manage stormwater and support tree roots, and modernizing irrigation systems for native plantings. The project is funded through a Proposition 4 Urban Greening Grant of approximately 579,634 dollars, supported by the Safe Drinking Water, Wildfire Prevention, Drought Preparedness, and Clean Air Bond Act of 2024. Administratively, the project is categorically exempt from the California Environmental Quality Act under Class 1 and Class 4 exemptions. The Capitol Area Development Authority has committed to operating and maintaining the project for at least 20 to 25 years following completion.
