Envision O Street Urban Greening Project - 1400, 1500 and 1600 Blocks

The Envision O Street Urban Greening Project will revitalize three consecutive blocks of O Street in downtown Sacramento—the 1400, 1500, and 1600 blocks—along with four adjacent half-block faces on 15th Street, Neighbors Alley, and 17th Street, creating a seamless nature-based cool corridor to mitigate urban heat. The initiative replaces heat-absorbing surfaces such as conventional turf, concrete, and compacted decomposed granite with climate-adapted landscaping, installs 12 new street trees, and substitutes a segment of asphalt with permeable concrete to enhance stormwater capture and support healthy tree root systems. Irrigation infrastructure will be upgraded to optimize water efficiency for native and drought-tolerant vegetation, ensuring long-term sustainability. The project is led by the Capitol Area Development Authority under the California state agency and is scheduled for public posting on July 30, 2026, with Marc de la Vergne, Director of Sustainability, Placemaking and Special Projects, serving as the primary point of contact for inquiries.
