Evans Bar Project

The Evans Bar Project is an environmental initiative led by the Trinity County Resource Conservation District, acting as the CEQA Lead Agency for the Watershed Research and Training Center. Located in Trinity County, California, approximately three miles south of Junction City, the project focuses on an 80-acre area to restore historical fire regimes and reduce wildfire risks. The primary objectives include implementing fuels treatments to modify wildfire behavior and reduce stand densities through hand thinning and prescribed burning. The scope of work involves the removal of brush, shrubs, and suppressed trees with a diameter at breast height of less than 10 inches to reduce the vertical and horizontal continuity of forest fuels. Residual materials will be managed via lop and scatter or piling and burning. All prescribed fire activities must be conducted under a formal burn plan in compliance with applicable laws and permits, with broadcast burns typically occurring during fall, winter, spring, and early summer. The project adheres to Standard Best Management Practices and requires the protection of resources as directed by a professional archaeologist. Trees and snags greater than 10 inches in diameter are to remain unless they pose an immediate risk to personnel or structures.
