The Department of the Navy, through the Naval Air Systems Command, is seeking information from potential vendors regarding the development and production of a modified Brake Bleeder Valve Protective Cap for the F/A-18 and EA-18G aircraft. The current issue involves the lack of a mechanical retention feature on the existing protective cap, which leads to the backing out of the brake bleeder valve, resulting in hydraulic system depletion and potential braking failures. The government intends to procure up to 4,800 redesigned caps that incorporate a safety wire or similar retention mechanism, ensuring the valve remains secure without altering the hydraulic or physical specifications of the existing part. The anticipated contract start date is in the second quarter of FY26, and responses to the RFI are due by August 8, 2025. Interested vendors are asked to submit a brief capability statement, including company details, relevant experience, and any supporting documentation, to assist the government in assessing the market’s ability to fulfill this requirement. This effort is part of market research to inform future acquisition strategies, and no funding or contractual commitments are made at this stage.
