The Tongass National Forest is soliciting for offers for the Kosciusko Stewardship project. Primary purposes of this project include second growth commercial timber removal, maintenance of existing roads, and restoration of previously logged over areas. To accomplish these goals, this project combines commercial timber removal from previously logged over areas with road maintenance and thinning activities. Timber removal will only take place in identified units. Approximately 1,344 CCF of cut tree marked second growth commercial timber within a 50 acre unit. Pre-commercial thinning of approximately 25 acres. Road maintenance activity including surface maintenance of approximately 10 miles, brushing of approximately 14 miles, hourly equipment/operator use of an excavator, crawler tractor and dump truck, installation or replacement of road markers/signs. Road reconstruction activities are involved also with estimate price range of between $25,000 and $100,000. The primary NAICS code for the resulting contracting will fall under road construction type activities as the majority of the value of the contract will reflect that activity. The resulting contract incorporates a Task Order Resource Services and Construction contract with provisions for Timber Removal. This is a multi-year contract with performance from date of award through five years. In event that the costs of the services exceeds the value of the timber products removed and/or the appropriated funds, the cancellation dates required by Federal Acquisition Regulation 17.106-1 will be mutually arrived at. The project is located on Kosiusko Island in southern southeast Alaska off the northwest coast of Prince of Wales Island. There are no commercial services available on Kosciusko Island. Access to the island is by float plane or boat. Kosciusko Island is not served by regular commercial boat, barge or air service but such transportation can be acquired through charter. The nearest full service community is Ketchikan, Alaska located approximately 60 air miles to the east. The solicitation will be posted on FedBizOpps on or about June 3, 2005.
