USDA Forest Service, Fire and Aviation Support Branch at the National Interagency Fire Center in Boise, Idaho, with this Special Notice advises all interested parties and vendors of the postponement of issuance of the proposed solicitation for the services of National Type 2 IA firefighting crews for the 2005 fire season. The revision of the current contract requirement for these services has not been accomplished within a time frame by which the exigencies of the current fire season have not unduly interfered with the Government's ability to effectively solicit and evaluate proposals or award contracts for these firefighting services. The Government's urgent and compelling need for the continued availability of crews under the current contract is provided as justification for an extension, on a sole source basis, of the crews currently under contract. The proposed contract period extension will encompass the remainder of the 2005 fire season, but in no case will extend beyond December 31, 2005. Resolution of proposed contract requirements and provisions are ongoing and there is a reasonable expectation that a Request for Proposals for a new contract will be published in FedBizOpps before December 31, 2005.
