The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) has determined that the project is a Qualifying Restoration Project pursuant to section 1671(d)(1) of the Fish and Game Code, and the project is expected to result in a substantial, cumulative benefit to native fish, wildlife, plants, and their habitat, or any combination thereof. The project is designed to restore and enhance 15.35 acres of coastal sage scrub and native flower habitat for the benefit of Crotch’s bumble bee (Bombus crotchii; candidate for listing under the California Endangered Species Act (CESA), Western burrowing owl (Athene cunicularia hypugaea; candidate for listing under CESA), and coastal California gnatcatcher (Polioptila californica californica; listed as threatened under the federal Endangered Species Act). The project will remove invasive vegetation, revegetate with native plants, and maintain the restoration planting. Before restoration begins, temporary fencing and signage will be installed. Initial invasive vegetation removal will be done by hand-pulling, hand-tools, mechanical removal, and herbicide.
