Feather River south levee and island annual vegetation management program

The City of Oroville is implementing the Feather River south levee and island annual vegetation management program in Oroville, California. This project focuses on the surveying, marking, and clearing of overgrown and invasive vegetation on the south levee and river islands to reduce fire hazards and enhance public safety. By removing dense cover, the city aims to discourage illegal encampments and make the area safer and more appealing for public park and recreational use. The scope of work is limited to hand clearing within existing public and private rights-of-way, specifically prohibiting the use of heavy mechanical equipment and any work within the river to protect salmon spawning. To ensure environmental protection, all native plants, sensitive habitats, and protected trees will be surveyed and marked for avoidance prior to the start of clearing. The project has been filed with a Notice of Exemption, asserting categorical exemptions for activities related to vegetation clearance and earthen embankment construction for flood protection.
