The contract pertains to the supply of fiberglass trays for the Mexican Fruit Fly Rearing Facility in Edinburg, Texas, operated by the Department of Agriculture. These trays are essential for the facility's ongoing production of approximately 100 million pupae weekly, serving multiple functions such as infesting diet with eggs, supporting larval growth, and holding pupae during development. Due to the high-volume and rigorous cleaning processes involved in rearing, the trays must withstand frequent use and exposure to sanitizing chemicals, and currently, no alternative product has proven as effective as these fiberglass trays in meeting these demanding requirements. This solicitation, posted as a total small business set-aside under NAICS code 326199, emphasizes the importance of durable, chemical-resistant trays to maintain the facility’s high-capacity operations. The response deadline is September 9, 2025, and interested small businesses are encouraged to review the opportunity through the provided link. The Mexican Fruit Fly (MexFly) Rearing Facility has been rearing fruit flies (Anastrepha ludens) in the Rio Grande Valley decades. The current production of pupae is currently set at 100 million pupae per week. The fiberglass trays are used throughout the rearing facility to infest diet with eggs, grow larvae, and hold pupae. They are put through high usage during the various life stages and development of the Mexican Fruit Fly. Currently there is no other product evaluated as effective as these fiberglass trays that can withstand the high-capacity usage that they are exposed to on a daily basis and to the cleaning chemicals used to sanitize the trays.
