Fluorescein Sodium Ophthalmic Strips, USP RP001, are subject to strict packaging, labeling, and quality requirements under contract SPE2DP-26-T-4205. Each unit consists of 100 individually sealed 1 mg strips and must be packed in commercial containers that protect against damage and breakage, with exterior shipping containers ensuring safe, cost-effective delivery to the designated point of delivery. All items must be marked in accordance with Medical Marking Standard No. 1, replacing all prior references to MIL-STD-129, and must include mandatory labeling elements such as NSN, manufacturer, CAGE code, date of manufacture, expiration or retest date, contract number, and lot number. The product has a non-extendable shelf life of 36 months and is classified as a TYPE I (CODE Q) item. Mercury or mercury-containing compounds are strictly prohibited from intentional addition or direct contact with the product, except in limited cases like functional components in instruments, batteries, or lab reagents specified by NAVSEA. Portable lamps or instruments containing mercury must incorporate shockproof design and a secondary containment barrier as per NAVSEA 5100-003D. Suppliers must provide Safety Data Sheets and HCS-compliant labels aligned with OSHA’s Globally Harmonized System, effective June 1, 2015, and must train employees on these requirements. The item is regulated by the FDA, requiring referral to a product specialist for confirmation prior to award. Delivery is FOB destination within five days, with zero variance allowed, and inspection and acceptance occur at the destination. The contract specifies a purchase quantity of two packaging units (PG), each equivalent to 100 units, under NSN 6505-01-503-2390, with approved manufacturers including Medline Industries LP, Amcon Laboratories Inc., and AmerisourceBergen Drug Corp.
