A collaborative initiative involving several military medical logistics agencies at Fort Detrick, Maryland, is organizing a series of Vendor Day events throughout 2006 and early 2007. Participating agencies include the Defense Medical Standardization Board, U.S. Army Medical Materiel Agency, Naval Medical Logistics Command, Air Force Medical Evaluation Support Activity, and Air Force Medical Logistics Office. These events allow approved vendors of medical equipment and supplies to showcase products to multiple military service organizations simultaneously. Each Vendor Day focuses on specific categories of medical devices or consumables relevant for austere environments and extreme conditions. Vendors are restricted to the first 20 applicants per event, must register their intended products in advance, and are allocated limited display space without the option for additional shelters or formal demonstration times. Participation does not imply product approval by any military service, and vendors must send a government sales representative as their delegate. The events are held at the Hotdome on Fort Detrick with coordination handled by a planning committee representing all involved agencies, which reserves the right to modify schedules as needed. Vendors are responsible for all their display equipment, including furniture, power needs (limited to 5 amps), and promotional materials, as onsite copying services are not available. The scheduled Vendor Days in 2006 cover EKG machines and ventilators in May, operating room and anesthesia equipment in July, hypothermia devices and telemedicine in September, and defibrillators and oxygen generation in November. A January 2007 event will focus on medical and surgical consumables, with details to be announced. Points of contact are designated for each event to facilitate vendor participation and communication.
