This contract focuses on three primary technical objectives related to nuclear safety and accident analysis. The first involves analyzing Severe Accident Debris Coolability issues by reviewing experimental data concerning Melt Coolability and Concrete Interaction (MCCI) alongside MELCOR modeling efforts, with the goal of providing recommendations for refining and further developing relevant computational codes. The second objective addresses Fuel Coolant Interactions (FCI) within the scope of the SERENA Phase II project, requiring comprehensive pre- and post-test analyses, plus parametric and sensitivity studies of experimental data from the KROTOS and TROI tests, utilizing the Texas-V analysis code. Lastly, the contract entails conducting a scoping analysis for the Reactor Cavity Cooling System (RCCS) to perform a preliminary evaluation of the safety implications tied to unique design features of the Very High Temperature Reactor (VHTR), especially under scenarios involving loss of pressurized helium due to a break in the primary cooling system. Overall, this work supports improvements in understanding and modeling beyond design basis accident scenarios, emphasizing critical interactions within nuclear reactors that affect core cooling and structural safety. The contract is identified by solicitation number RS-04-09-136 and was made publicly available on May 8, 2009. The key contact person for this effort is Michael Mills, reachable via email and phone, facilitating communications regarding project execution and oversight. The contract falls within the NAICS code 541330, indicative of engineering services, but specific details about the contracting agency or location of work performance are not provided.
