Design. The Suitland Parkway Trail is a multi-use trail located east of the Anacostia River and runs as a side path parallel to Suitland Parkway between Southern Avenue and the intersection of Pomeroy Rd and Sheridan Rd SE. The trail in its existing condition has a poor surface condition, lacks a barrier or separation from the roadway in multiple locations, and does not meet current design standards for trail width. This project improves the condition of the existing trail and improves safety for bicyclists and pedestrians and users of the trail. The improvements will provide a barrier between the parkway and the trail, widen the trail to 10 wide where possible, build new segments of the trail to connect with the street grid, and provide wayfinding and emergency response markers for users.
