FY26-DDOT-PSD-Suitland Parkway Trail Rehabilitation

The Suitland Parkway Trail Rehabilitation project aims to upgrade an existing multi-use trail located east of the Anacostia River, running parallel to Suitland Parkway between Southern Avenue and the intersection of Pomeroy Rd and Sheridan Rd SE. The current trail suffers from deteriorated surface conditions, inadequate width, and a lack of physical separation from the adjacent roadway, compromising safety for pedestrians and cyclists. The project will address these issues by widening the trail to a minimum of 10 feet where feasible, installing dedicated barriers between the trail and Suitland Parkway, and constructing new trail segments to better integrate with the local street grid. Additional enhancements include the installation of wayfinding signage, emergency response markers, and new lighting to improve visibility and safety during nighttime use. By relocating the trail further from the roadway, the design increases the buffer between users and motor vehicle traffic, contributing to a more secure and accessible environment. The improvements are intended to bring the trail into compliance with current design standards and enhance overall user experience.
