This Brand Name requirement is for purchase of Globe brand "GXTREME" jackets (model number 31882E) and Globe brand "GXTREME" pants (model number 41882E) for the Aviano AB Fire Department. The following characteristics of the jackets and pants are essential to their firefighting duties: PBI aluminized 7 ounce shell, Aralite quilt thermal liner, Stedair moisture barrier, aluminized reinforced elbows and knees, Arashield cuff reinforcements, PBI hand & wrist guards, 3" x 3.5" x 9" radio pocket, snap on tabs at the hem line, the Drag Rescue Device, and the item's meet National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) standard 1971, 2007 edition. 2. Current inventory consists of 30 pairs of these protective ensembles. Several that are worn beyond serviceability need to be replaced with matching products. Replacement with another product will cause improperly matched ensemble, leaving firefighters susceptible to injury and burns. Additionally we currently have replacement suspenders, liners, and knee and elbow pads for this gear allowing us to replace parts of worn outfits. Purchase of a different brand of protective equipment, would require additional money to ensure proper bench stock for replacement, and repair of the new suits. For these reasons it is in the best interest of the Government to purchase the aforementioned brand name supplies.
