Specifications for Required Instrumentation - High-Bandwidth Pressure Sensors & Associated Hardware We require 30 high-bandwidth pressure sensors and associated signal conditioners to measure unsteady wall pressure fluctuations in a hypersonic wind tunnel test model. The pressure sensors will be flush mounted into existing port holes in the model surface. The pressure sensors shall meet the following requirements: 1) A frequency bandwidth of at least 1 MHz to be able to measure flow disturbances in the range of a few hundred kHz. 2) Sensors shall be able to handle an overpressure of at least 15 psi. 3) The model has existing port holes drilled into the model surface. Therefore, the pressure sensors need to have a diameter of 1/8 inch to accommodate the existing ports. 4) Signal conditioners with a bandwidth of at least 1 MHz are required for the pressure sensors. Thirty (30) channels of the signal conditioners are required. If we purchase the PCB132B38 sensors as noted in the attached quotation, we already have 8 channels available in our lab so the 24 additional channels will suffice. The preferred vendor for these high-bandwidth pressure sensors and associated signal conditioners is PCB Piezotronics. We are satisfied that they will be able to meet our specifications in a timely manner based on past experience and will provide us with the necessary customer support as we integrate these 1/8-inch pressure sensors into our wind tunnel models. Also, the ability to use the same size pressure sensors will be beneficial to the government as far as installation and development time.
