Highway Fire Awareness Signs in High Fire Areas of Yolo County

The project consists of four feet by eight feet (4' x 8') wildfire awareness signs that will be posted on private property facing two major highways (Highway 128 and Highway 16) in the high fire areas of western Yolo County. The signs display a warning that the areas are high fire areas and to avoid sparks that could ignite wildfire. The signs are a project from the Yolo County Community Wildfire Protection Plan with full support and input from the Yolo County Fire Safe Council, which consists of local fire departments, CAL FIRE, and community representatives that live in the Ca pay Valley and Winters, CA. These highways are often frequented in the summer months by visitors heading to use recreational sites like Lake Berryessa, Putah Creek, The Cache Creek Casino and Cache Creek who may be unaware of the increased fire risk in the area. The sign is meant to raise awareness of fire danger to prevent human caused ignitions. The 4' x 8' signs will be posted on wooden posts that will be cemented into holes in the ground. Additionally, the project will also consist of twenty-four {24) 18-inch by 24-inch signs placed at commonly used pullouts along Highway 128 and Highway 16 which lists common ignition sources to avoid such as improper disposal of cigarettes, dragging trailer chains, illegal fireworks, grills, and campfires. These signs are meant to raise awareness of activities that often spark a wildfire. These ignition signs will be posted on metal posts with guidance from the Vacha Dehe Wintun Nation Cultural Resources Department and the County of Yolo. Before the signs are installed, 811 will be called to ensure no utility lines will be impacted.
