HUM-96 PM 26.51 - Repair Culvert (01-0R001)

The California Department of Transportation, District 1 - Eureka, is initiating emergency repairs on State Route 96 at post mile 26.51 in Humboldt County under contract number 01-0R001. This project addresses critical infrastructure damage caused by heavy winter rains and drainage failure in December 2025, which resulted in a sinkhole that undermined the highway shoulder and damaged the embankment and pavement structural section. The primary objective is to restore the traveled way and eliminate imminent safety hazards to the public by repairing the failed drainage system and roadway facilities. The scope of work includes the installation of a new culvert and a cutoff wall positioned below the existing concrete apron to prevent water from traveling beneath the concrete pad.
