Full Description

Caltrans proposes repairing the roadway settlement on Highway 1 at PM 10.4 in Bodega Bay that was caused by storm events and a drainage failure. The existing pavement exhibits severe cracking and a settled outside shoulder on southbound Highway 1 that is approximately 30 feet in length. Water from the winter storms seeped into the pavement cracks, oversaturating the supporting soils and leading to a collapse of the pavement. The project will construct an 85-foot-long by 40-foot-deep micropile wall as recommended by Caltrans District 4 Office of Geotechnical Design – West. A new drainage inlet (DI) about 2.5-feet to 3-feet deep will constructed within the pavement crack/settled area at the southern edge of the store parking lot. This new DI will be connected to the DI across the road on the northbound shoulder by a new 18-inch corrugated steel pipe (CSP). The existing 75-foot-long asphalt concrete (AC) dike running along the southbound shoulder will be removed and replaced with a 130-foot-long AC dike. The settled pavement area will be ground and repaved. Temporary one-way traffic control will be required during construction.
