I-40 Bridge Scour Project

The California Department of Transportation, District 8, is forecasting the I-40 Bridge Scour Project to address structural deficiencies and upgrade infrastructure along Interstate 40 from Post Mile R139.0 to R152.2 in Needles, San Bernardino County. The primary scope of work involves replacing rock slope protection and partially grouted rock slope protection apron areas at Whale Mountain Wash, specifically targeting eight aprons located at the approach and departure of bridges 54-0668L and 54-0668R. Additional project requirements include updating guard rail end treatments, installing vegetation control, and upgrading lighting and sign panels to meet current reflectivity and safety standards. All activities will be conducted within the State right of way, including access to Whale Mountain Wash. The project is managed by Caltrans with oversight from Senior Environmental Scientist-Supervisor Cesar Garcia and Senior Environmental Planner Youji Yasui.
