The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) proposes to upgrade structures and improve other deficiencies along Interstate 40 from Post Mile R139.0 to R152.2 in Needles, San Bernardino County, California. Improvements would include replacing the existing Rock Slope Protection, and partially grouted rock slope protection apron areas at Whale Mountain Wash (Bridge Numbers 54-0668L and 54-0668R) per the latest Advance Planning Study (APS). There are a total of eight (8) aprons extending along the roadway shoulder at each bridge approach and departure. In addition, upgrading guard rail end treatments to latest standards and installing vegetation control, sign panels with higher reflectivity, and lighting to the latest standards. All work is within the State right of way, including access to Whale Mountain Wash.
