The contract entails the implementation of planting approximately 1,876,722 trees across 40 blocks in the Chilcotin region near Riske Creek during the spring of 2026. The exact number of trees will be finalized based on nursery lifts in February 2026. Planting is scheduled to begin between early April and no later than May 4, and is expected to conclude by June 21, although weather conditions may extend or delay this timeline. The terrain varies from 1000 to 2000 meters in elevation, with many blocks being fill plants on natural or previously planted stock, some of which have not been mechanically prepared or previously harvested, leading to higher overhead hazards and less developed road access. The contractor must manage daily operations, including timely payment and reporting, maintain constant communication with Ministry of Forests staff, and ensure compliance with seedling tracking and reporting systems such as RESULTS. Seedlings are planned to be stored at High Country Cold Storage in Kamloops, with final cold storage arrangements confirmed in February. Ministry staff will conduct periodic inspections of work sites, camps, and caches. The contract requires the contractor's presence every day during planting activities, the ability to promptly plot released blocks, and the production of professional reports, including formal declarations and sealing of blocks. The solicitation was posted on January 28, 2026, with a response deadline of February 24, 2026, and is managed by the Ministry of Forests under the Government of Canada.

Full Description

This is a contract to Implement planting of approximately 1,876,722 trees on 40 blocks in the spring of 2026; final numbers will be determined by nursery lifts that occur in February 2026. This contract is active starting at snow free in April, but no later than May 4 and ending June 21, weather dependent. The planting may be extended if there are extenuating circumstances beyond the control of Ministry Staff or Contractor; likewise, planting may be cancelled or delayed if weather becomes prohibitively hot and/ or dry with no likely precipitation. Most of the planting units are accessed off the Farwell FSR/ 2000rd in the Chilcotin south of Riske Creek at elevations from 1000m to 2000m. While some blocks may have had mechanical site preparation, the blocks within this contract are mostly fill plants of natural stocking or previous plantations. Many of these blocks were not harvested previously and so will have higher instances of overhead hazards as well as less robust road network access. An implementation contractor is expected to manage the day-to-day relationship and pay plotting, and Ministry staff may periodically inspect the worksite, camp and/or cache locations. Seedling cold storage locations will be finalized in February, current plan is to have all seedlings located at High Country Cold Storage in Kamloops. The Implementation contractor is required to have daily written correspondence with the ministry of Forest, be present and available everyday of planting, be able to quickly payplot released blocks as they are released, update seedling tracking software, report and update RESULTS, produce professional reports, sign/seal and declare blocks.
