AI Contract Overview
The Department of the Army is hosting an Industry Day on September 15, 2026, in Huntsville, Alabama, to identify prospective sources for the Next Generation Short Range Interceptor Alternate Interceptor Demonstration. The program aims to provide a high performance, soldier portable, fire and forget surface to air missile system to replace the legacy FIM-92 Stinger, capable of defeating rotary wing, fixed wing, and Group 2/3 Unmanned Aircraft System threats. The new missile must be backwards compatible with legacy platforms such as SGT STOUT and MADIS. The government is specifically seeking vendors with production-ready systems capable of participating in a demonstration scheduled for Spring 2027, which may lead to a procurement award. While attendance at the Industry Day is voluntary and not a requirement for future procurement, the event will include an overview of opportunities, a panel discussion, and optional one-on-one breakouts. Interested parties should refer to the registration guidelines and contact Jazmine Robinson for further details.

Full Description
The purpose of the Industry Day is to provide an overview of the Next Generation Short Range Interceptor (NGSRI) - Alternate Interceptor Demonstration (AID) to identify prospective acquisition opportunities. Attendance and participation in this Industry Day are voluntary; participation in any subsequent procurement or transaction is not contingent upon attendance.
The current NGSRI program was initiated to meet the Department of the Army requirement for Maneuver Short Range Air Defense (M-SHORAD) surface to air missile systems to replace the legacy FIM-92 Stinger man-portable air defense system. The NGSRI is a high performance, soldier portable, fire and forget, surface to air missile system capable of defeating rotary wing, fixed wing, and Group 2/3 Unmanned Aircraft System threats. The NGSRI missile is backwards compatible with the legacy Stinger missile platforms such as SGT STOUT and Marine Corps Marine Air Defense Integrated System (MADIS).
The Army is seeking to identify additional potential sources to fulfill the NGSRI requirements. The Army plans to conduct a demonstration in the Spring 2027 timeframe. A successful demonstration by an offeror may lead to an award for missile procurement.
Industry Day: The U.S. Government plans to hold an Industry Day with all interested vendors providing an overview and preview of future NGSRI opportunities. Participation in any future transaction or procurement is not contingent upon attending this Industry Day. The target audience for the Industry Day are vendors with production-ready systems that meet NGSRI requirements who can participate in a demonstration in the Spring 2027 timeframe.
