The contract focuses on conducting detailed studies of influenza virus transmission within household settings, aiming to understand how the virus spreads and evolves among individuals in close contact. It emphasizes examining how factors such as vaccination status, prior immunity, age, and clinical symptoms affect transmission dynamics and viral behavior. The project requires collaborative partners capable of efficiently performing household transmission studies during active influenza virus circulation periods. Key activities include prospective recruitment and continuous follow-up of participants, systematic collection of respiratory virus specimens, and gathering comprehensive data on individual characteristics related to infection and transmission. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is overseeing the initiative, seeking expertise to support these epidemiological investigations essential for improving public health responses to influenza outbreaks.

General Info

Full Description

The purpose of this project is to monitor the transmission of influenza viruses in household settings. This includes the transmission and viral dynamics of influenza, and how these dynamics are impacted by characteristics of individuals, including vaccination, previous immunity, age, clinical symptoms or lack thereof, and characteristics of infecting influenza viruses. We seek partners who can collaboratively and efficiently conduct household transmission studies of influenza during periods of virus circulation. These studies include prospective recruitment and follow-up, collection of respiratory virus specimens, and collection of information about individuals.
