The contract involves the interior fit-out of a currently shelled Operating Room (OR) and associated support spaces at the Alberta Children’s Hospital in Calgary, under the Alberta Surgical Initiative aimed at enhancing surgical capacity across the province. The hospital, a 160-bed pediatric care facility serving patients up to 18 years old, currently has a Level 3 Surgical Suite with eight operational ORs that will remain in use throughout construction. The project requires that the new OR match the existing suite operationally, functionally, and aesthetically, while ensuring construction activities are carefully coordinated to maintain patient safety, infection prevention, noise and vibration control, and minimize disruptions to hospital operations in an active healthcare environment. A critical component of the project includes a mandated phasing requirement, specifically the completion and handover of the designated Storage Room before finalizing the OR fit-out. The solicitation is managed by the Government of Canada's Infrastructure agency, with a response deadline set for mid-April 2026. Coordination with facility representatives and clinical users is essential during the project to ensure seamless integration within the existing surgical services framework and compliance with healthcare standards throughout the construction period.

Proponents are instructed to review the RFP for specifics on the scope of Work. The Province, through the Alberta Surgical Initiative (ASI), is undertaking upgrades at multiple healthcare facilities across the province to increase surgical capacity and modernize surgical services in both urban and rural centres. As part of this initiative, the Province is proceeding with the fit‑out of one (1) currently shelled Operating Room (OR) and associated direct support spaces at the Alberta Children’s Hospital (ACH) in Calgary, Alberta. The Alberta Children’s Hospital is a full‑service, 160‑bed pediatric care facility providing inpatient, outpatient, surgical, and emergency care for patients 18 years of age and under. The hospital’s existing Level 3 Surgical Suite, operational since 2006, currently comprises eight (8) ORs and will remain operational throughout construction. This project involves the interior fit‑out of a shelled OR within the existing Surgical Suite, with the intent that the new OR align operationally, functionally, and aesthetically with the existing ORs in the suite. Construction activities shall be carefully coordinated with facility representatives and clinical users within an active healthcare environment, with particular attention to patient safety, infection prevention and control (IPC), noise and vibration control and minimal impact to hospital operations. Proponents shall be aware this project includes a specific phasing requirement. In particular, the Storage Room identified within the project scope must be completed and turned over prior to construction completion of the OR.
