The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) conducted a virtual industry event on March 23, 2022, aimed at advancing the modernization of air traffic surveillance services within the National Airspace System (NAS). This event highlighted the agency’s ongoing commitment to innovation through technologies such as Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) and Fusion automation, which have significantly improved surveillance capabilities for air traffic controllers, pilots, and travelers. During the event, the FAA’s Surveillance Services leadership team presented their strategic vision and the 2022 NAS Enterprise Architecture Infrastructure Roadmaps, focusing on the future development of cooperative and non-cooperative surveillance systems across surface, terminal, and en route airspace sectors. The agenda covered a range of critical topics including surveillance acquisition, sustainment, radar technologies, spectrum efficiency, wind turbine interference mitigation, and surface movement radar improvements. Following the event, industry participants were invited to engage further through a structured process involving the submission of follow-up questions by March 30, 2022, and the opportunity to request one-on-one sessions with FAA Surveillance Services personnel planned for May 2022. These sessions, limited to 45 minutes, were designed to foster close collaboration with industry partners on key focus areas like radar surveillance advancements and replacement programs. The FAA emphasized the importance of properly marking proprietary information in submissions and reiterated its obligations under applicable disclosure laws. Comprehensive event resources and materials were made available online, supporting ongoing industry engagement and transparency in the FAA’s efforts to enhance the most advanced air traffic surveillance capabilities worldwide.
