Install MGS, Dike, Vegetation Control, and Terminals on SR 78 in San Diego County

Caltrans District 11 is proposing a safety improvement project on eastbound SR 78 in San Diego County, specifically at the northwest corner of Rancho Santa Teresa Drive. The project involves the installation of a Midwest Guardrail System, terminal systems, and a Type F hot mixed asphalt dike to reduce the severity of run-off-road collisions, which have previously resulted in vehicles crossing into westbound lanes. To ensure a minimum 1.5 foot clearance from existing SDG&E utilities to the back of the guardrail posts, Caltrans will remove the existing asphalt dike and up to one foot of the existing asphalt shoulder. All planned work will be conducted within the Caltrans right-of-way.
