Intersection Lighting and Safety Improvements at Halibut Point Road/Peterson Avenue

The project involves enhancing safety and visibility at the intersection of Halibut Point Road and Peterson Avenue through improved lighting and roadway modifications. The work includes providing additional illumination to meet current DOT&PF standards, adjusting adjacent roadway lighting to ensure continuous and satisfactory lighting levels, and establishing a pass-through crossing to facilitate easier pedestrian movement. To improve sight distance, the project entails removing utility equipment in the southeast quadrant, acquiring property to eliminate parking that obstructs sightlines when occupied, and modifying access to an adjacent apartment building by shortening a curb cut. Additionally, existing school warning signs will be replaced with advance pedestrian warning signs to enhance safety. The contract, managed by the Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities, has a budget range of $500,000 to $1,500,000 and is scheduled for solicitation with responses due by October 28, 2025.
