AI Contract Overview

The contract involves the procurement of seven units of a specific cable assembly identified by NSN 7H-6150-015142430, delivered FOB origin to Caton Connector Corp in Kingston, Massachusetts. This procurement is conducted as a sole-source negotiation under FAR 6.302-1 because the item must be acquired from a designated manufacturing source approved on source control or selected item drawings per DoD-STD-100 guidelines. The government lacks sufficient technical data, rights, or manufacturing knowledge to consider other suppliers or test alternative parts, making competition impractical. While the notice invites interested parties to express interest or submit quotes, the government has sole discretion on whether to proceed with a competitive process. The supply is categorized under repair or modification of cable assemblies and is managed by the Navsup Weapon Systems Support Mech office in Mechanicsburg, PA. Respondents are informed that military specifications, standards, and qualified product resources can be accessed through official DoD channels like DAPS and the ASSIST-Online platform, although certain documents such as patterns and drawings must be obtained elsewhere. The notice clarifies that while this is not a commercial item acquisition under FAR Part 12, potential suppliers may still indicate their interest within specified timeframes, with proposals considered up to 45 days post-notice or 30 days if under an existing Basic Ordering Agreement. The government’s intent is to negotiate exclusively with the identified source unless compelling information suggests otherwise. This approach ensures compliance with regulatory requirements governing procurement of specialized defense components lacking a broader competitive market.
