AI Contract Overview

The contract involves the procurement of 13 units of a radar set group identified by NSN 7R-5841-015687044-EX, with delivery FOB origin to BAE Systems Information in Wayne, New Jersey. This acquisition is a sole-source negotiation, as the government intends to contract with an approved supplier possessing unique design, engineering, and manufacturing capabilities crucial to maintaining part quality. The item is flight-critical, and the technical data held by the approved source is proprietary and essential, preventing full and open competition. Any alternative source must undergo rigorous government engineering approval processes to qualify, but such approvals typically take time and are unlikely to delay award. The solicitation, issued by the Naval Supply Systems Command Weapon Systems Support office in Philadelphia, emphasizes strict source approval requirements. Interested parties not already approved must submit detailed technical data per NAVSUP WSS Source Approval Brochures to be considered. Failure to provide complete data or documentation of source approval status will result in exclusion from award. The government reserves discretion to continue sourcing from the approved supplier to meet fleet support schedules if new source approval cannot be completed in time. This contract underscores the importance of specialized knowledge and controlled data rights, with award decisions balancing operational urgency against procurement regulations.
