The Department of Veteran Affairs Network Contracting Activity VISN 6 plans to negotiate a sole source contract with Steris Corp for preventive maintenance services on various Steris washers and sterilizers used at the Veteran Affairs Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina. The contract covers maintenance for nine specific pieces of equipment identified by their model numbers, including units from American Sterilizer and AMSCO Century Steris. The service period includes a base term plus a three-year option. Certified Field Service Engineers from Steris, qualified to maintain and repair original equipment manufacturer (OEM) items, must perform all services in compliance with OSHA, VA, and JCAHO/JTC sterilization and safety standards. The contract stipulates that Steris must provide loaner equipment during any maintenance or repair downtime to ensure no interruption occurs in surgical operations. This procurement will be awarded without competition under the statutory authority permitting sole source contracts when only one responsible source can meet the agency’s requirements, as outlined in 41 U.S.C. 253(c)(1) and FAR 6.302-1. Though this is not a solicitation for competitive quotes, other firms believing they can fulfill the requirements may submit written notifications with supporting evidence by January 11, 2012. The Government will use responses solely to determine whether a competitive procurement is necessary.
