James River Core Analysis

USACE, Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) Contracting Office intends to issue a sole source award to the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS), 1375 Greate Rd, Gloucester Point, VA 23062 to Sediment Core Processing Services. VIMS will specifically provide X-ray imaging of seven (7) push cores collected from within the James River field site to allow for the visualization of any density changes or sediment laminations within undisturbed cores. An additional core will be collected by ERDC personnel at each site to provide material for sediment moisture content. The upper 10 cm of these cores will be extruded and sliced at ~1 cm intervals by ERDC personnel immediately following collection. The resulting moisture content samples should be assessed at each 1 cm interval according to ASTM D2216 procedures. An additional core will be collected at each site to provide material for sediment grain size distribution analysis. The Government intends to procure from only one source under the authority of FAR 6.302-5(c)(1)(iii)(B). This is not a request for competitive proposals and no solicitation is available.
