John Bangs Reconstruction

The Ontario International Airport Authority is initiating the John Bangs Reconstruction project in Ontario, California, to address pavement deterioration and enhance pedestrian safety. The scope of work includes the demolition and full-depth reconstruction of main drive lanes using asphalt concrete pavement, the milling and overlay of the center left-turn lane, and the installation of safety treatments such as roadway striping enhancements, pedestrian visibility features, and traffic signage. All activities will be conducted within the existing roadway footprint to minimize environmental impact and ensure regulatory compliance. Construction is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2026 and is expected to last approximately four months. Project logistics include utilizing an existing airport storage area west of the North Secured Area Access Point for staging, with access via Vineyard Avenue and a haul route through Airport Drive to Interstate 10. The project is categorized as exempt from the California Environmental Quality Act under Guidelines Sections 15301 and 15302. To maintain airport operations, the contractor must implement environmental and safety best management practices throughout the performance period.
