Joss House FIPP Structure Hardening

This project will combine the Facility Ignition Prevention Program (FIPP) scope of work with implementation of the Chinese Cultural Garden Master Plan at Weaverville Joss House State Historic Park to improve staff and visitor safety, reduce wildfire ignition potential, enhance cultural interpretation, and preserve historic resources through aligned structure hardening, defensible space, and landscape improvements. The project work focuses on the Weaverville Joss House Temple and Visitor Center and the surrounding grounds. Work will: • Use Class A fire-rated roofing to reroof and fire harden the Visitor Center, repair associated structural elements, and treat the Joss House Temple roof with fire-retardant sealant; • Upgrade the existing fire protection systems, including a fully functional and monitored deluge system; • Replace wood fencing with non-combustible materials to eliminate direct ignition pathways to structures; • Upgrade monitoring and control systems to improve emergency response readiness and early detection capabilities; • Establish and maintain defensible zones in compliance with State and Department guidelines; • Reduce hazardous vegetation and fuel continuity across developed areas of the park; • Install a culturally significant, fire-resistant landscape design consistent with Facility Ignition Prevention Program standards and the Master Gardener's Plan; and • Implementing fire-resilient landscaping that reduces recurring vegetation management needs.
