The NAVSURFWARCEN Crane Division is seeking engineering support services specifically for the Crossed Field Amplifiers (CFAs) used in the AEGIS AN/SPY-1 Radar Systems. The objective is to enhance the reliability, improve performance, reduce acquisition costs, or transition engineering activities into production for existing CFA designs. This procurement will be conducted through a sole-source approach under 10 U.S.C. 2304(f)(1), citing that only L-3 Communications Corp. and Communications and Power Industries' Beverly Microwave Division can meet the agency's needs. The resulting contracts are expected to be indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity, and cost-plus-fixed-fee types spanning five years, with individual delivery orders specifying performance requirements. The solicitation is set for release around December 30, 2004, and will be accessible exclusively through the NAVSURFWARCEN Crane Division website, with no hard copies mailed. Proposals are invited from responsible sources, but the notice itself does not represent a commitment to procure. Contract inquiries are directed to D.A. Frick at the Crane Division. The contract supports important radar system components critical to defense operations, and the acquisition emphasizes specialized expertise and proprietary capabilities held by the two named suppliers.
