Log Test Data

The Forest Service plans to award a follow-on contract to The Beck Group, located in Portland, Oregon, to continue developing a Sawlog Quality Index for the Alaska Region's timber appraisal system initially created by the same contractor. The contract requires specialized expertise in Region 10, including familiarity with the appraisal system, log conversion factors, and quality indexes pertinent to Southeast Alaska. Additionally, the contractor must have prior experience conducting sawmill log tests in that area, access to an extensive historical database of forest product values and manufacturing costs, and a strong record of professional integrity with confidentiality and conflict of interest safeguards in place. The contractor will be responsible for providing all necessary labor, transportation, lodging, and incidental items to fulfill the contract tasks. All log test and sales data must be handled confidentially as per federal regulations. While there is no competitive proposal package available, parties interested in fulfilling the contract requirements could submit a statement of capability by the deadline of August 25, 2011.
