Major Storm Damage and Flooding in Imperial County

Caltrans District 11 is initiating an emergency project titled Major Storm Damage and Flooding in Imperial County to repair infrastructure damage caused by Tropical Storm Juliette. The primary objective is to ensure public safety by restoring adequate surface runoff through existing drainage systems. The scope of work involves cleaning and repairing damaged culverts, flushing plugged drainages, removing excess material from inlets and outlets, replacing damaged drop boxes, and clearing debris within the Caltrans right-of-way. Additionally, the project includes the cutting, removal, and hauling of six trees at the westbound I-8 Sunbeam rest area in El Centro. The project will be executed at various locations across Imperial County, specifically affecting State Routes 78, 86, 98, 111, 115, and Interstate 8. Identified by EA 11-43293 and PID 1126000018, the project is classified under NAICS code 237310. Due to the emergency nature of the repairs, the project has been granted a CEQA exemption and a NEPA categorical exclusion, as it is determined to have no significant environmental impacts. All work must adhere to the environmental commitments detailed in the Environmental Commitments Record.
