Mariposa Creek Parkway Phase 1 and Phase 2 Restoration Project

The Mariposa Creek Parkway Phase 1 and Phase 2 Restoration Project, managed by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife and implemented by the Mariposa County Planning Department, focuses on the restoration of 4.05 acres of riparian corridor in Mariposa County. The project involves the removal of target invasive species, specifically Himalayan blackberry and tree of heaven, utilizing a combination of mechanical, manual, chemical, and prescribed burn treatments. To ensure safety during burns, non-target species will be thinned and hand-line fire breaks will be established. Following the removal of invasive plants, the area will be revegetated with locally native trees, shrubs, and herbaceous species. This process includes excavating holes for pots up to 25 gallons and installing root protection baskets, weed protection mats, and browse guards to ensure planting success. A temporary drip irrigation system using ABS and poly plastic piping will be installed to provide supplemental municipal water from November through April for a three-year establishment period. The project is categorized as a small project enhancing habitat for fish, plants, or wildlife and is exempt under California environmental regulations.
