The Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division, is conducting a market research effort to identify companies capable of supplying 7.62mm L2R2 cartridges that meet specific performance criteria. These requirements include a high level of accuracy, with mean radii not exceeding 3.1 inches for boxed ammunition and 4.7 inches for linked rounds at 400 yards, and stringent chamber pressure limits under various temperature conditions. The cartridges must maintain bullet integrity during firing, penetrate 0.25 inches of mild steel at 200 meters when fired from an M240B machine gun, match the trajectory of the M80 cartridge up to 400 meters, and function reliably in both the M14 Rifle and the M240 Machine Gun without modifications. Desired range parameters include a maximum effective distance of 2,000 meters, with 1,500 meters being preferable. This announcement is strictly a sources-sought notice for information gathering and does not constitute a solicitation, and no funding is currently available. Interested parties are invited to submit relevant company and product information—such as white papers, testing data, availability, and pricing estimates—by the specified deadline. Submissions will be treated confidentially and can be sent electronically or via hard copy to the designated contacts at NSWC Crane. The government clarifies that it is not liable for any costs incurred by respondents and that this effort serves to gauge industry capabilities in preparation for possible future acquisition actions.
