To create the mmWave testbed, the RF Technology Div. requires several precision coaxial cables to connect between test instrumentation and antennas. PURPOSE: The Shared Spectrum Metrology Group (672.05) requires several different lengths of precision, mmWave coaxial cables. These cables will add mmWave measurement capability to a reverberation chamber that currently operates below 6 GHz. This will allow NIST to take synthetic-aperture measurements up to 67 GHz. SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS: - Type K cables shall meet specifications below between at least 100 MHz and 40 GHz - Type V cables shall meet specifications below between at least 100 MHz and 67 GHz - Male refers to the coaxial connector gender (male has the pin center conductor) - Four (4) Each Type K Male to Type K Male cables, 1.5 meters (Bulkhead to VNA) - Two (2) Each Type K Male to Type K Male cables, 1.0 meter (Bulkhead to Meas. Ant.) - Two (2) Each Type K Male to Type K Male cables, 2.5 meters (Bulkhead to Ref. Ant.) - Two (2) Each Type V Male to Type V Male cables, 1.5 meters (Bulkhead to VNA) - One (1) Each Type V Male to Type V Male cables, 1.0 meter (Bulkhead to Meas. Ant.) - One (1) Each Type V Male to Type V Male cables, 2.5 meters (Bulkhead to Ref. Ant.) TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS: 1. Shall have differences in specified lengths of not more than +/-5 cm. 2. Shall have a maximum insertion loss (at the maximum frequency of operation) of: a. Type K: 3.8 dB/meter b. Type V: 6.0 dB/meter 3. Shall have a minimum bending radius of at most 30 mm (that is, less than 30 mm is acceptable). 4. Shall have a maximum phase difference after bending of no more than: a. Type K: 5 degrees b. Type V: 8 degress 5. Shall have a minimum shielding effectiveness of 100 dB (at all frequencies). 6. Shall be armored. 7. Shall be at least double shielded. 8. Shall have a maximum outer diameter of: a. Type K: 10 mm b. Type V: 8 mm 9. Shall have a 50-ohm characteristic impedance +/- 1 ohm. 10. The cables must be new. No used or refurbished cables will be considered. DELIVERY: 1. Delivery shall be not later than (NLT) ninety (90) days ARO. Early delivery is acceptable if mutually agreed upon the Government's ability to receive at an earlier date. 2. Delivery shall be FOB: NIST 325 Broadway Boulder CO, 80305. TESTING AND INSPECTION: 1. The Shared Spectrum Metrology Group (672.05) will physically inspect and test the mmWave cables on-site to verify they meet the requirements listed in the technical specifications. 2. Building 215 Clean Room HEPA Filter Replacement
Solicitation # RFI-195000-26-00181
The National Institute of Standards and Technology is conducting market research through a Request for Information for the Building 215 Advanced Measurement Laboratory cleanroom repair and HEPA filter replacement project in Gaithersburg, Maryland. This initiative follows a previous solicitation that failed to produce an acceptable offer, prompting NIST to reassess its acquisition strategy and seek industry feedback on constructability, cost, and schedule feasibility. The project scope involves the modernization of an 1,800 square meter facility, including the replacement of approximately 1,200 HEPA filters, 70 VAV terminal units, and 54 airflow monitoring devices, as well as the installation of 32 exhaust air control valves and associated ductwork repairs, testing, and recertification. A critical component of the project is the proposed phasing plan, which aims to minimize research disruptions by utilizing 19 construction phases, including 18 critical cleanroom outage phases. Each critical outage is currently envisioned as a nine-day window starting Friday evening and requiring 24/7 operations to achieve ready-for-re-occupancy by the following Monday morning. NIST is specifically requesting rough-order-of-magnitude cost estimates and industry input on whether this aggressive outage schedule is realistic or if it creates prohibitive risks and costs. Responses, including company experience and recommendations for improving competition and project execution, are due by October 14, 2026.
