The Department of Defense's Fleet and Industrial Supply Center in San Diego plans to award a sole source firm fixed price contract to Composite Mirror Applications Inc. for the procurement of a specialized equipment mount designed to support a 1-meter parabolic carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) mirror. This mirror, currently being fabricated for the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS), is intended for use within the Mechanical and Astronautical Engineering Department to assist in horizon pointing and collimated light supply to the Segmented Mirror Telescope. The mount must allow for precise coarse and fine adjustments—specifically tip, tilt, and vertical (+/- Y) movements—and be lightweight, constructed from CFRP to ensure compatibility with the mirror itself. The procurement is conducted under FAR Part 13, with an emphasis on a non-competitive sole source award due to the specialized nature of the supplies and vendor expertise. No formal drawings or specifications are provided, and the Government invites any capable parties to express interest by contacting the designated Contract Specialist via email before the specified deadline. The requirement falls under NAICS code 333314. Contractors must be registered in the Central Contractor Registration database to be considered. The evaluation of responses will determine whether competition will be pursued or the sole source award proceeds as planned.
