The Greater Toronto Area (GTA) is a commonly recognized metropolitan region in Southern Ontario that includes the City of Toronto and the surrounding regional municipalities of Durham, Halton, Peel, and York. Together, these municipalities comprise 25 urban, suburban, and rural communities. The GTA spans an area of approximately 7,123.64 square kilometers, extending from Burlington in the west across the Lake Ontario shoreline, through Toronto, and eastward to Clarington in Durham Region.
