The KC-135R Multi-Point Refueling System (MPRS) supplies fuel to U.S./NATO aircraft via hose and drogue. The MPRS control panel trail and rewind switch controls the extension and retraction of the hose and drogue system. Airmen have inadvertently actuated the trail/rewind switch into the trail position without the fuel and air pump activated. Without the fuel and air pump activated, the empty, unstable hose and drogue unwind and separate from the MPRS pod on the aircraft. The hose/drogue loss has been rated as a routine safety issue. A risk assessment conducted by the KC-135 Program Office determined inadvertent actuation of the KC-135 MPRS Pod equipped aircraft trail/rewind switches would be avoided by having switch guards installed to the trail/rewind switches. Due to limited data rights, this contract will be sole source to Flight Refueling Limited/Cobham Mission Equipment (FRL/CME) located in Great Britain. FRL/CME will procure and install 40 switch guards on 20 KC-135R MPRS Pod Control Panels. This effort will also require Technical Order Sustainment actions, Technical Order Modification Updates, Switch Guard procurement, and Delivery of the modified MPRS control panel switches. The total period of performance for this contract is estimated at 36 months, with a 1-year basic period and two 1-year option periods that may be awarded at the government's discretion.
