The National Cancer Institute (NCI) is offering the Research Specialist Award (R50) under solicitation PAR-28-063 to support exceptional clinician scientists within NCI-funded clinical trials networks. This award provides salary support and autonomy to ensure career continuity for individuals who lead the development of national clinical trials, implement these trials within their institutions, and provide national service through scientific review and monitoring committees. The award is specifically designed for those who do not serve as principal investigators of research project grants. The total project period may not exceed five years, with funded effort required to be between 2.4 and 4.8 person-months per year, capped at a total of 6 person-months across all NCI grants. Additional funding is available for travel to research meetings and conferences, not to exceed 2,500 dollars annually. Applications are evaluated based on the personal accomplishments of the Research Specialist, their contributions to NCI-sponsored networks, the scope of funded trials at their institution, and the level of institutional commitment. Required deliverables include participation in an annual NCI virtual meeting and adherence to annual training in human subjects protection and regulatory compliance. Applicants must maintain active registrations in the System for Award Management (SAM), possess a Unique Entity Identifier (UEI), and have active eRA Commons accounts. The award is governed by 2 CFR Part 200 and 42 CFR Part 52, and recipients must implement cybersecurity incident reporting procedures that notify HHS agencies within 48 hours of discovery.

Through this notice of funding opportunity (NOFO), the National Cancer Institute (NCI) invites applications for the Research Specialist Award (R50) specifically for clinician scientists supporting NCI-funded clinical trials research. The Research Specialist Award is designed to encourage the development of stable research career opportunities for exceptional clinician scientists who want to continue to participate in the NCI clinical trials networks through leadership in the 1) development of national clinical trials, 2) implementation of NCI clinical trials in their institutions, and 3) national service to the NCI clinical trials networks through participation in the scientific review committees, monitoring committees and other activities, but not serve as principal investigators of research project grants. These clinician scientists are vital to sustaining the NCI-funded clinical trials enterprise. The Research Specialist Award is intended to provide salary support and sufficient autonomy so that individuals are not solely dependent on NCI grants held by others or other sources of support for cancer research career continuity.

HERMES BAA CALL: Rotating Detonation Rocket Engine-Combined Cycle (RDRE-CC) Flight Demonstration
Solicitation # FA9300-20-S-0001-CALL-RDRE-CC
The Air Force Research Laboratory Rocket Propulsion Division is seeking innovative research and development to advance Rotating Detonation Rocket Engine-Combined Cycle propulsion systems from TRL 3 to TRL 6. This effort aims to culminate in a ground-launched, sounding-rocket-boosted flight demonstration to support future High-Speed Affordable Mass Munitions. The project utilizes a two-step solicitation process, beginning with the submission of a concise white paper outlining technical architecture, compliance with test objectives, and estimated costs, followed by a full request for proposals for selected candidates. The anticipated period of performance is 36 to 48 months. Recent amendments have significantly updated submission protocols and administrative details. Phase I white papers must now be submitted directly to Contracting Officers Mathew Pierson and Kameelah Purdom via DoD SAFE drop requests, as the generic workflow inbox is no longer in use. Due to the presence of Controlled Unclassified Information, unencrypted email is prohibited, and offerors must request a secure drop-off link at least two business days before the deadline. Additionally, the government has released updated technical Q&As and notified offerors that Sierra Lobo, Inc. will provide non-governmental technical advisory support during the evaluation process.
